Brocade’s award-winning FastIron® Edge Switch (FES) includes the X-series products - the FastIron Edge Switch X424 (FES X424) and the FastIron Edge Switch X448 (FES X448) to provide greater flexibility, higher reliability, enhanced security, extensive redundancy, and a new level of high performance by combining Gigabit over Copper (GoC) and 10 Gigabit Ethernet, while simplifying network management complexity and reducing on-going training expenses. The Brocade FES X-series establishes the next benchmark in delivering the most adaptable feature set, combined with high density GoC with 10 Gigabit Ethernet upgradeability in a compact form factor. Specifically, the FES X series establishes the industry’s leading price-performance value for fixed Ethernet solutions with the addition of removable and replaceable 10 Gigabit Ethernet modules in a 1.5 Rack Unit (RU) form factor. The FES X-series can be initially installed using four “Small Form Pluggable” (SFP) Gigabit Ethernet ports, and then later upgraded to support one or two “10 Gigabit Small Form Factor Pluggable”(XFP) modules.

To meet existing and emerging network requirements, the FES X-series delivers a full complement of standards-based, feature rich switching and Base Layer 3 routing capabilities, hardware and software resilience, rich quality of service (QoS) controls including prioritization and rate limiting, standard and extended ACLs, integrated Gigabit over Copper (GoC) Ethernet ports, and more. The extensive feature set supports network requirements ranging from basic connectivity to multicast-based streaming audio/video applications for converged services including Voice over IP (VoIP), using a software upgrade to full enterprise Layer 3.

Brocade’s FastIron Edge X series IPv4-Capable switches deliver wire-speed 24-port and 48-port 10/100/1000 Mbps or 24-port 100/1000 SFP to 10GbE aggregation in a compact, fixed-configuration form factor. With 4 built-in Combo Gigabit Ethernet ports and up to 2 optional 10GbE ports, the X series switches provide a smooth migration from Gigabit Ethernet to 10-Gigabit Ethernet. The FastIron Edge X series switches deliver an optimized set of Layer 2 and Layer 3 services based on the company’s time-tested, field-proven IronWare networking software. Support for redundant AC/DC power supply units, configurable levels of IronShield security, ACL processing, inbound port-based rate limiting and sFlow based traffic monitoring -all in a compact form factor. Standard IronWare software options include Advanced Layer 2 (including GVRP, 802.1Q VLANs, Per-VLAN Spanning Tree, 802.1w Rapid Spanning Tree, IGMP Snooping, VSRP, Extended ACL and 802.1x Port Authentication) and Base Layer 3 (Static Routes and RIP advertisement). Upgrade options are available for Full IPv4 Layer 3 services (including RIPv1/v2, OSPFv2, BGPv4, PIM-SM/DM, DVMRP and VRRPE).

All units ship with a console cable and US power cord unless otherwise specified at time of order. All orders include one (1) integral power supply, manual on CD- ROM, and rack mount kit. These switches are upgradeable with one redundant, hot-swappable power supply.

SFP and XFP optics must be purchased and shipped separately. These FES-X products are capable of Layer 2 switching of IPv4 and IPv6 traffic and Layer 3 routing of IPv4 traffic. If the application requires or will require IPv6 Layer 3 routing please refer to the FES-X models that are identified as hardware ready for IPv6 Layer 3 routing.
