The Brocade XMR Series of networking routers are designed for high scalability, high performance backbone Internet routing, and MPLS applications. Each of the NetIron XMR routers offers hardware based IPv4 and IPv6 routing, MPLS TE, and MPLS VPNs as well as Layer 2 switching for integration with Layer-2 metros. With Layer 3 support for up to 1 Million routes, the XMR allows providers to handle multiple internet routing tables to provide a high-level of redundancy at the core.
Designed for high-end routing applications, the NetIron XMR Series features Foundry Direct Routing (FDR) technology for full Forwarding Information Base (FIB) programming in hardware, together with hardware-based wire-speed access control lists (ACLs) and policy-based routing (PBR) for robust, high performance IPv4, IPv6,and Layer 3 VPN routing. Complementary to FDR is a full suite of unicast and multicast routing protocols for both IPv4 and IPv6. Supported IPv4 protocols include RIP, OSPF, IS-IS, BGP4, PIM-DM, PIM-SM, IGMP, BGP-MP for multicast, and MSDP. Supported IPv6 protocols include RIPng, OSPFv3,BGP-MP for IPv6 (BGP4+), PIM-SSM, and MLD. Building on this solid routing architecture, the NetIron XMR routers also provide dual-stack IPv4/IPv6 wire-speed routing to facilitate a seamless migration to IPv6 without sacrificing performance.
Brocade’s NetIron XMR Series routers are built to effectively address all these hurdles by offering the state-of-the-art in hardware and software design. Based on a superior terabit-scale architecture that includes Foundry’s cutting edge fifth generation network processors, this series comprises the industry’s most powerful, high density IPv4/IPv6/MPLS multi-service routers. To enable the employment of scalable, high value, and profitable services, the Brocade XMR Series offers highly versatile, cost-efficient solutions for Internet routing, Metro core, large scale IP backbones, and IP carrier’s carrier transport.
- 2 billion packet per second chassis with the performance of four chassis in one at 1/10th the cost
- Designed for growth with 40 or 100 GbE interconnects in the future, compatible with today's systems
- High-availability design features redundant and hot-pluggable hardware, hitless software upgrades and graceful Multicast, MPLS, ISIS, BGP and OSPF restart
Each router has a base system which includes the chassis with redundant fans and fan controllers, one management module, and a number of switch fabrics and power supplies (chassis dependent) required to support a fully loaded system. Customers can optionally add components (management, switch fabric, power supplies) to the system for redundancy and high availability.
